When I initially get a brand new student, the first thing I want to know is how much spoken and survival English they've got. After that, I move on to academics and want to find out if they have the foundational skills of English. We all know, a building will not stand without a strong foundation, a plant will not grow without strong roots, and cue other cheesy analogies here. But honestly, this for me is mandatory.
