I love using alphabet linking charts with beginning students. It's a great way for them to begin using language, looking at words and letters, saying sounds and words... I could go on. I just think these are a really great resource for many reasons.
Here's a few creative ways you can incorporate these into your beginner lessons:
1. Give students a black and white version and have them color in letters as you introduce them.
2. Read the chart at the beginning of each lesson by letter, letter, sound, word.
3. You can use extra charts to play a version of "Alphabet BINGO" where you give students BINGO dabbers and call out letter names (or sounds) and they cover letters as you say them aloud. This is great for assessing letter ID in a fun way. I personally love using these Ice Cream Scented Dot Markers (the kids love them, too!!!) but you can use anything you've got! Marking 'X' with red crayons or markers do the job as well, it's just a little less fun. ;)
4. Use the charts as a student resource when students are reading and/or writing. Teach them to use these charts when trying to figure out sound and letter matches.
